Remainder and Factor Theorem

Learners will be able to:

• Explain the remainder theorem and its application in polynomial division. • Calculate the remainder of a polynomial division using the remainder theorem. • Identify when x minus a is a factor of f of x, given that f of a equals zero. • Apply the factor theorem to show that g of x is a factor of f of x if f of a equals zero. • Factorize and solve cubic polynomials by finding one factor using trial and error, then dividing by inspection or synthetic division.
