Properties of Triangles and Similarity Example 2

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the angles in triangles STW and UVW that are common to both triangles. • Explain why triangle STW is similar to triangle UVW using the properties of angles in a triangle. • Use similarity to set up a proportion between corresponding sides of the two triangles. • Calculate the length of side ST by cross-multiplying and solving an equation. • Determine the height of the telephone pole, ST, based on the calculated value.
