Episode 22 — Analytical Geometry

Equation of a Line

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the standard form of a straight line equation (y = mx + c) and its components (gradient m and y-intercept c). • Write the equation of a straight line in gradient-point form (y - y1 = m(x - x1)) given the gradient and a point on the line. • Calculate the gradient of a straight line using the formula (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) when two points are known. • Use the standard form of a straight line equation to find the y-intercept given the gradient and a point on the line. • Find the equation of a perpendicular line given the equation of another line and a point on it.
