Cartesian Plane and Plotting Points

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the x-axis and y-axis as perpendicular axes that meet at the origin on the Cartesian plane. • Describe any point on the Cartesian plane using an ordered pair of numbers, where the x-value is listed first. • Explain the meaning of abscissa and ordinate in terms of their relationship to the x and y values in a pair of coordinates. • Plot points on the Cartesian plane by listing the x-value first and determining the corresponding y-value. • Identify the quadrant in which an ordered pair should be plotted based on the signs of the x and y values.
